CIPP Lining: What It Is and How It Works
Can you imagine repairing pipes without having to dig? This is exactly what happens with trenchless pipe lining in Gahanna, OH. The no-dig method preferred by the Sewer Pro team is known as CIPP, or cured-in-place piping. Here’s what you need to know about it and how it works.
What Is CIPP Lining?
CIPP pipe lining involves the use of a flexible tube filled with an epoxy resin material. The liquid-like coating in the liner will harden or “cure” when it’s placed in the pipe. When the process is complete, you’ll have a like-new pipe inside of the existing one.
How It’s Done
CIPP or sewer pipe lining starts with an inspection of the pipe that needs repaired. We do this to ensure the pipe is stable enough for the liner to be inserted and to identify the problem areas. If conditions are right for CIPP lining, the pipe is cleaned to help the coating adhere better.
The liner is then inserted into the pipe after it has been coated with the resin material. Heat is often applied to help with the curing process. The final step with trenchless pipe lining is to inspect the pipe again to confirm the new internal coating is free of any flaws.
When Is CIPP Lining Ideal?
CIPP pipe lining is often recommended if the damaged or worn pipe is structurally stable. It can also be an effective way to deal with pinhole cracks, misaligned pipe joints, cracks or holes from tree roots, and damage from soil shifting. In some instances, older cast iron pipes may also be strengthened with CIPP lining.
